The Ganton Gathering
HISTORY
A new - but then a not so new - event for Yorkshire MAG:
I will try to explain, but don't blame me if you get lost because I was there, and I get confused. Every time I tell the story it changes, so what hope you folks have of keeping up is beyond me but anyhow, here goes:
Way back in November 1994, a rally was held at Cat Babblton Farm (then home of the Farmyard Party), called Blathered at Babbleton.
This rally was a two-pronged event. Firstly, we had to get rid of all the unsold beer left over from the Farmyard Party: and what better way than to throw another party? Secondly, we could raise money for the PDSA.
Selling the excess beer at £1 per pint, we did both, and it worked very well indeed. The next year Scarborough MAG decided to run the rally again at the same site, and this time to raise money for a badger charity. The event name was changed to The Badger Bash (whilst collecting money in Scarborough on the Saturday run out, can you believe someone was appalled that nasty bikers wanted to go and bash poor badgers?!).
After a fall out with the greedy farmer, both the Farmyard Party and the Badger Bash moved on to pastures new (every pun intended), with the latter moving to Wold Farm at Ganton - about a mile away from Cat Babblton. The rally was at first run by Scarborough MAG, and then by the Badgers MCC, and it trotted on happily for 10 years until it was decided to call it a day when the organisers went into retirement.
So now in 2008, Magic Action Promotions Ltd. (headed by Yorkshire MAG) have decided to put on a new fundraising event for the MAG Foundation Charity * at Wold Farm, Ganton, North Yorkshire. This rally is based on the traditional rallies originally held at the site, and will be specifically raising funds to help keep the MAG Foundation doing work on improving road safety and motorcycle theft prevention - all sterling causes that can only go ahead with external funding.
So, if you fancy a good old traditional rally with bands, beer and a good craic, get yourself there!
It's a mere stones-throw from the seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby, and it's surrounded by some of the best biking roads in the country. Come and party with like-minded people, chill out round a huge bonfire with old friends and make some new ones as well. It's the only way to spend a summer weekend!
Places are limited due to the size of the site, so book early to avoid disappointment. So, if you are planning to pay on the gate please check this site before you set off to avoid disappointment.
